Words from Nick...

Ales of the Telegraph:

We are mad keen on our real ale here, since we opened in July we have sold 35 different beers, from the sublime Everards Sunchaser (like drinking a pint of sunshine) sure to make a return in the summer to the wonderfully dark wintry Cameron’s Fireside.

We have a very strong relationship with several different breweries but our main supplier is Courage. I have worked with Courage’s Cellarmans Reserve scheme for 7 years now since it first went live and have enjoyed developing pubs real ale lines with its excellent ever-changing range. A great way of bringing many of the nations regional brewers’ beers to pubs that are committed to purchasing through Courage.

The great thing about the Telegraph is that we are not ‘tied’ so are able to support some smaller brewers too. Weltons from Horsham is tiny independent in Sussex that I have worked with loads in the past, Ray Welton is the most passionate men on beer I have ever met and produces over 100 different beers each year! One of his permanent brews really fits the Telegraph perfectly though. Pridenjoy at 2.8% is ideal for pubs off the beaten track; it tastes great and would pass for a 4% pint, ideal for drivers and lunchtime drinking. We also sold Rays award winning ‘Horsham Old’ throughout December and January that proved very popular.

Just recently we have started stocking the Crane brewery in Twickenham’s ‘Advantage Ale’, I think this will really take off during the 6 nations. Although our resident rugby team the London Cornish will be torn as they are loyal supporters of St. Austell Tribute that is often available here. Tribute is one of my favourite pints of all time, it has a wonderful citrus nose that gives it a glugability like no other.

The only two beers that I list permanently are poles apart but equally reverend. The aforementioned ‘Pridenjoy’ sits proudly along side another favourite of mine – Adnams Broadside. For a premium pint at 4.7% it is extraordinary how much of this we move. I think Adnams produce the tastiest and best quality beers available from a brewery of their size.

We respect London Pride and Youngs for the quality pints they are but as they are so readily available in our area we try to steer away from them and offer something a little more unusual.

Look out in the future for Hogsback T.E.A. that is extremely popular in our Surrey sister pubs.

On the second bank holiday weekend in May we will be hosting the ‘First Telegraph beer festival’ highlighting our commitment to bringing you the most interesting beers available and hoping to put us on the map as one the top beer pubs in the South!

Our current line up is – Pridenjoy, Broadside, Tribute, Old Hooky, Advantage Ale and Caledonian Deuchars!
